Ingrid Bergman was a Swedish actress who starred in a variety of European and American films, television movies, and plays. She was awarded the first Tony in 1947 for her performance in Joan of Lorraine,  a 1946 play-within-a-play by Maxwell Anderson. It is about a company of actors who stage a dramatization of the story of Joan of Arc, and the effect that the story has on them.
