Picasso at the
Lapin Agile
August 13th - August 22nd, 2027
What happens when two of history’s greatest minds meet in a Paris café before either becomes famous? Picasso at the Lapin Agile imagines the hilarious and wildly clever answer.
Set in 1904 at the famous Lapin Agile cabaret in Paris, this long-running comedy brings a young Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso together just before they revolutionize the worlds of science and art. As the future genius physicist and groundbreaking painter debate life, love, creativity, and the future of humanity, sparks fly in a whirlwind of sharp wit, intellectual banter, and absurd humor.
Adding to the chaos are a colorful cast of café regulars and eccentrics—including a bartender, his spirited mistress, an aging philosopher, Picasso’s date, an eccentric inventor, and a delightfully clueless visitor named Charles Dabernow Schmendiman, each bringing their own hilarious perspective to the evening.
Written by legendary comedian and actor Steve Martin, Picasso at the Lapin Agile is a smart, fast-paced comedy filled with imagination, charm, and unexpected surprises—including a mysterious guest from the future who just might change everything.
Brilliantly funny and endlessly entertaining, this inventive comedy is a celebration of art, science, genius, and the wonderfully unpredictable nature of inspiration.
