UNDERWRITING

Strengthen the Art. Strengthen the Theatre.

Production underwriting covers the cost of mounting a show before ticket sales begin, ensuring every ticket sold supports the long-term sustainability and artistic excellence of Hill Country Community Theatre.

Producing live theatre is both inspiring and complex. Each mainstage production carries real and necessary expenses, including royalties, music licensing, scenic construction, costumes, lighting, sound, design, and creative leadership. As production quality grows, so do the costs required to bring exceptional theatre to our stage.

Underwriting ensures that these productions are fully funded from the outset. When a show is underwritten, we remove financial uncertainty and convert ticket revenue into true operating support. This strengthens our foundation, supports staffing stability, and allows us to focus on artistic excellence rather than financial pressure.

Why Underwriting Matters

Underwriting is not about filling a gap; it is about building structure.

When productions are fully underwritten:

  • Financial risk is reduced before tickets are sold

  • Ticket revenue supports long-term sustainability

  • Artistic quality can be elevated

  • Operational stability is strengthened

  • Ticket prices remain accessible for our community

It is one of the most powerful ways to invest in the future of HCCT.

What It Costs to Produce a Show

Producing a single mainstage production can cost $15,000–$27,000, depending on the scope of the show.

These costs may include:

  • Performance royalties and licensing fees

  • Music rental and orchestration (for musicals)

  • Scenic construction and materials

  • Costumes and props

  • Lighting and sound design

  • Direction and stage management

  • Technical support and production labor

Our production budgets are built to reflect the true market cost of mounting each show responsibly and sustainably.

Underwriter Recognition & Benefits

Underwriters are recognized as artistic partners in bringing each production to life. Benefits may include:

  • Recognition from the stage during the run of the production

  • Name or logo featured in the playbill for the full season

  • Recognition on production marketing materials

  • Featured acknowledgment on social media

  • Lobby recognition signage during the production

  • Invitation to opening night events or behind-the-scenes experiences

  • A limited number of complimentary tickets for the production

(Complimentary tickets are thoughtfully limited to preserve box office revenue while honoring your investment in the production.)

Who Can Underwrite?

Individuals, families, businesses, and foundations can fully or partially underwrite a production. Multiple partners may also collaborate to underwrite a show together.

Whether you choose to underwrite a full production or contribute toward a portion of one, your investment directly strengthens the theatre’s artistic impact and financial sustainability.

A Tax-Deductible Investment in the Arts

Hill Country Community Theatre is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All underwriting contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Underwriting gifts are designated and restricted to the production of your choosing. Funds are used exclusively to support the direct costs of mounting that specific production. Any remaining balance, if applicable and approved by the underwriter, may be allocated to continue strengthening the theatre’s artistic and operational stability.

Your investment supports both exceptional theatre and responsible stewardship of community resources.

Invest in the Future of HCCT

Underwriting is a strategic investment in quality, stability, and long-term growth. It allows Hill Country Community Theatre to continue raising the bar artistically while remaining financially responsible.
